Born in the small township of Springwood in the Blue Mountains west of Sydney. He developed a keen interest in photography from an early age and by sixteen had won the NSW junior Top Shot Award. In 1999 David combined his talent for photography and his passion for dogs with a desire to travel the Australian countryside, and began capturing unique, heartfelt and truely iconic images of Australian Dogs The former Springwood resident was announced as an Archibald Prize finalist in his second attempt at entering the prestigious portrait prize.It was only two years ago the 45-year-old was a finalist in the National Photographic Portrait Prize, taking out the 2016 People’s Choice award for his image of actor, Levi Miller, on the set of Red Dog: True Blue.Prior to that, Darcy gained a high profile for his environmental portraits of dogs in a series of books and exhibitions. Being hung in the Archibald could make him the only Australian to have become a finalist in both portrait prizes.
Gala Opening Friday night, 15th November starting 7pm.
